Almost every manufacturer or extended warranty administrator requires that you perform some maintenance at specified mileage intervals. They generally list items you must service in order to keep your warranty valid. In most cases, our driving conditions in the Antelope Valley fall under the “severe” condition. These “required” services are listed in your owner’s manual. If you do not have the owner’s manual, we maintain an extensive data base on computer and can produce the correct service schedule for your automobile or light truck.

It has been our experience that some of these “schedules” are what we call “Minimum Required Service” and do not necessarily protect all the systems on your car. This can lead to catastrophic failures to your car - usually when it is out of warranty!

We have been collecting data since 1993 and have, in our opinion, compiled a reasonably comprehensive schedule of maintenance. It is set up in such a way that it protects your car properly and splits up the servicing so it does not all come at the same time. This schedule could be used in conjunction with, or in addition to, your factory required maintenance schedule.

Always remember that a happy, healthy, long lasting, and dependable car is never a neglected car. If you can plan out your services and their cost, you can actually put auto maintenance into your household budget and it won’t be such a burden when a major service comes up. The nationwide average for auto repair maintenance is $1200 - $1500 per automobile per year. The family car is usually the second largest investment we make -doesn’t it make sense to take care of it so you can depend on it?

Change engine oil and filter.
Lubricate chassis.
Rotate tires if necessary (every 3000 or 6000 miles).
Visual brake inspection.
Inspect belts and hoses.
Test battery, charging and starting systems.
Inspect air filter.
Inspect condition and level of all fluids.
Inspect exterior lights.
Repair or replace and deficiencies found.

3,000 mile service plus the following:
Flush brake fluid on ABS equipped vehicles
Complete, comprehensive brake inspection.
Clean and adjust brakes if inspection is okay.
Clean and protect battery and cable ends.
Replace wiper blades.
Inspect and lubricate throttle linkage.
Inspect shocks and struts.
Inspect exhaust system.
Repair or replace any deficiencies found.

3,000 mile service
Replace fuel filter.

12,000 mile service
Flush brake fluid on non-ABS equipped vehicles.

15,000 mile service.
Service transmission.
Service differential.
Flush cooling system on non-DEXCOOL systems.
Flush power steering fluid.
Replace non-platinum spark plugs.
Inspect distributor cap and rotor (if equipped).
Scope analysis of engine.
"Scan" Circuit test
of on board computer.
Service PCV system.
Fuel injection service.
Repair or replace any deficiencies found.

30,000 mile service
Flush cooling system on DEXCOOL equipped vehicles.
Replace thermostat.
Replace all coolant hoses and clamps.
Replace platinum spark plugs.
Replace distributor cap and rotor (if equipped).
Replace spark plug wires on distributorless ignition systems.
Replace fan belts (if they have not been done prior).
Replace timing belt (most vehicles that are equipped).
Repair or replace any deficiencies found.

30,000 mile service
Replace timing belt (some vehicles that are equipped).
Repair or replace any deficiencies found.

60,000 mile service
Replace timing belt (on all cars not done at 60,000 or 90,000 miles).
Repair or replace any deficiencies found.
